Description
Begin at the Taj Mahal — the people who built it and the ones it was built for, the grief behind it, and the Agra of weavers and traders that stood here before the Mughals. Then Agra Fort and the lives held inside it, down to the emperor kept there looking downstream at the tomb. After lunch, Itmad-ud-Daula — Nur Jahan building for her father — then Mehtab Bagh at dusk, and dinner in a village home. Led all day by an artist and storyteller from Agra, not a monument guide.
How it unfolds
- The Taj Mahal, early, with our Making of a Wonder reading — the design, the workforce, the engineering behind it.
- Agra Fort, the Red Fort: audience halls, private palaces, and the tower where Shah Jahan spent his last years looking downriver at the Taj.
- Itmad Ud Daula – The jewel Box
- Mehtab Bagh at golden hour — the Taj from the far bank of the Yamuna.
- Grameen Bhojanam: a home-cooked seasonal meal in a village on the outskirts, on leaf plates, by hand.
